Moving right along

Well it seems to be going fairly smooth so far. 4.0 has been stable and fairly trouble free.

Made some more tweaks over the weekend. Added the background image and updated the gallery and audio player plugins. The audio player is giving me some stupid Java error on IE 7 but it still shows up and plays. Weird stuff. One of the new features is now volume control (see left hand side of player) which is good because if your computer volume was up fairly loud it would blast you out of your seat. And the gallery plugin is updated but seems pretty much the same. I finally finished reworking it so I could use it the way I wanted. Which leads to the next revision.

I finally have the “Great Moments in Comic Book Advertising” category set up for posts, plus a separate gallery, what took all the time, for those that just want to cruise the images. As I post more ad images it will show in the comic book ad gallery, listed in the features pages, without the copy from the post. But you will be able to view them as a larger image slide show or at their full size.

Enjoy.

Aurora monster scenes

I loved this stuff as a kid. And this was as cool as it got. Monsters; check, get to build a model; check, other cool things you could get to go with said model of monster; check and double check. Aurora made groovy monster sets. Everything from Japaneese monsters to the classics. You have to enjoy the kit for “victim”. A model of some busty brunette (or blonde if you have the right paint) dressed in some skimpy tattered outfit screaming her head off. Love it. Hell, I would build one now.

Image of the Week

Okay so I was gone a week. So sue me. It was my Birthday and I got the pleasure of fighting a trojan horse issue with my rig. But we are back and ready to roll.

Flying out of LAX over the years I had become increasingly curious about a series of homeless streets that border the west end of the runway. As you launch off the end of the runway, right before you bank out over the Pacific Ocean, the unmistakable layout of a suburban neighborhood lays below. This always piqued my curiosity as to what the hell happened there. To see what I am refering to check out Google Earth and look at the west end of the LAX runway. It’s as plain as day, trust me you can’t miss it.

Thank God for the internet. When these curiosities strike now you can at least do a couple of searches and see if you come up with anything. Well I did and there is a bunch of stuff, if you look. The most amazing that I found was a series of photos from photographer John Divola who had the good sense back in ’74 to get photos of this stuff before it was lost forever beneath a bulldozer. Haunting, facinating and a weird snapshot of a place that was soon not to exsist at all. You can check out the rest of his photos at his site here. Which includes a full photo essay on this neighborhood and some other great photos for those of us who enjoy looking at the remenants of modern civilization.

Also for a brief explanation here’s the Wikipedia article on Surfridge.
