He-She.jpg

The deadliness of a woman with the strength of a man. He-She! I think I met this one night in the old highlighter bar in Phoenix. Not exactly the deadliest of women or the strongest of men, but did tell me the story of her fighter pilot fiances death on some secret military training run. And how it had emotionally destroyed her since she had unfortunately witnessed this tragic accident. She had only witnessed this super secret operation because she, of course, was the most decorated woman fighter pilot in the history of the Air Force. Now I was a little suspect about her story. Not as suspect as I was about her adams apple and 5 o’clock shadow.

The above is a page from “Boys Stories” comics from 1943. Not exactly the scariest of super-villains but hey it was the 40′s what do you want? Your other options were Hitler guy and buck toothed, green skinned, glasses wearing, short Asian creep. I kid you not. Go back and look at those covers. Their portrayal of Japanese was horrific by today’s standards but common back in the day. So all considering maybe He-She isn’t such a bad option after all. You only had to wait a couple of years before all the atomic, communist villains took over anyway.

Masto.
