Strange Suspense 21

The “strange” part of this title obviously refers to the cover. This thing asks way more questions than it answers. Why is this woman hanging into a well filled with alligators? Are wells normally filled with alligators? Why is the deranged looking man hitting her hand with a hammer? Doesn’t a hammer seem a bit of an overkill? The pointy whack lines radiating from her hand suggest he has hit her at least once. How many times does it take to hit someone in the hand with a hammer to make them let go? Who is the strange man in the hat coming up to push the deranged man into the well? Why is everyone trying to have everyone else eaten by alligators. Does a calf length skirt and matching bikini top seem like a odd wardrobe choice for entering a well full of alligators?

For anyone wanting to know the answers to these and many other questions you will be sadly disappointed to find out they will not be answered by reading this comic. There is a story about a well. And it includes 2 men. After that all similarities seize to exist. No hammer, No bikini top blond, no alligators.

Phoenix

Okay, this is a pretty simple Image of the Week. I live just north of downtown Phoenix. When driving around running errands, or any other stupid reason to be out driving around, I sometimes like to shoot pictures of the buildings along Central and downtown. I know, not exactly thrilling, but I seem to get a kick out of it. So here is a selection from my growing collection of buildings I shot for no other reason than I felt like it.

Upgrade 2.8

Yes once again I upgraded to the newest version of WordPress and need to fix all the little things that got eaten in the process. Now I have gotten much better at doing this since my colossal data wipe out of ’08. But I still seem to have a couple of little things that screw me. Or maybe screw with one of the plug-ins I use on the site. Anyways I almost have the tweaks done and will have a few new site tweaks up along with the new code.

Of the the new additions I decided to add comic book covers to compliment the ad gallery and will be starting a gallery of panels. With the panels there will be no comment from me. They seem to work better out of context and completely left to your own imagination.

Love Experiences 18

Does she look a little hesitant to you? For a title called Love Experiences you thing she would look a little more in to the moment. She looks more like she is trying to remember if she left the stove on. Junior there looks like he’s on her like he just got released from prison. Or maybe he just gets that hot over disinterested girls suited up in equestrian gear. You know now that I look at it, it looks like her Love Experience is trying to decide if that’s juniors riding crop pressing in to her upper thigh. God she hopes so.

Jesus Helguera

Jesus Helguera 1910-1971. Mexican painter who married the heroic Aztec image to Catholicism. For any one growing up in SoCal in the 70′s this style of art was everywhere. It completely reminds me of LA and the Chicano culture boom of the period.

Unfortunately for me my reminiscence of this theme of Latino art comes mostly from the low rider shows I would occasionally attend in my youth. So I am use to seeing this kind of image painstakingly airbrushed onto a gold metal flake 62′ Impala hood or trunk lid. On a car that most the chrome parts have been plated in 18kt gold and has mirrors underneath it so you could see the polished, metal flake, gold plated undercarriage as well.
