Great Moments in Comic Book Advertising.

Mattel M16

Guns were big. back in the day toy guns were a major part of every kids arsenal of fun. Now… not so much. By the late 70′s it was all done with. All it took was a couple cops to shoot a couple of kids who jumped out pointing a plastic pistol to end that quickly. Notice the gun pictured does not have a orange end cap, and also looks like a real gun. Not some laser blaster or such. But I think a lot had to do with reality sinking in to our daily lives on a much more media driven war than the previous ones. Considering the year this ad is from (1967) Jimmy here is probably having a great time with his buddies imagining running through the jungle taking down charlie in his local playground of choice. Or maybe imagining wading knee deep in the rice paddies looking for snipers.

The fun starts to suck as you watch the flag draped coffins on the evening news while having dinner with your family or your brother comes home in a box.

Blurry Photo #36

blur-36

Well this week we should be on track to get back to the Image of the Week. But I have edited some more stuff so I will start posting nightly to get some of it up for your enjoyment.

First up a blurry photo I accidentally shot, that kind of goes with the territory, with my cell phone by throwing it on the car seat. Tada! great blurry. So here it is. For the rest of the blurry photos see the page listed under features.

Til tomorrow.
