Great Moments in Comic Book Advertising #13

ant farm

Hey everyone loves the ant farm. Hell even at 28 I had one sitting on my fireplace mantle (no lie I really did). But come on there is enough copy on this to choke a mule. What 12 year old comic book reader is going to wade through this. “An ants entire world. Complete with live stock of ants” is all we pretty much need to know and it’s all over. Sounds great sign me up. Do we really need to know it’s “educational” or a description of what an ant farm is? Hell no. Got live ants? check. Groovy little home to watch their activities? check. what more do you really need to tell me? nothing. But that is a trifling complaint, my main quandary over this is the illustration of the children watching said ant farm. Am I alone in finding them a bit disturbing? The boy looks like his overdosing of Ritalin has got him zoning out on the whole ant world process. The girl on the other hand doesn’t look like shes seeing the ants as much as she just witnessed her parents having sex.

Romance #31

wait and see

Back by popular demand, or because I miss them and I still have a stockpile of them sitting around. Romance panels make a triumphant return. With a more leisurely pace than the 30 panels 30 days blast of September. If anyone is interested in seeing the first 30 just click the “romance panels” link on the side of the page.

As far as this entry is concerned it seems like most of these girls in these comics sleep in the same bed as their roommates. Okay I have never known a woman to sleep with her roommate unless she was way more than just a roommate. Was it ever like this? or does this fall into that realm of the fantasy lesbian that men have been eating up since the dawn of time. Do I need to file this under “They do not pillow fight in their bra and panties” section of fantastical myths.

Blurry Photo #43

Or as I like to call this one “Lost in the Supermarket”.

Image of the Week.

A return my ass. Okay I won’t give the usual excuses. I will just blanket it by saying I have been much more busier than I expected.

I can thank my Last.FM buddy Vex for lighting a fire under my ass to post this weeks image. She was kind enough to pass along a link to some old book cover illustrations that were a crack up. So thanks to Vex I now bring you the greatest cover illustration known to the history of publishing.

The Little People

That’s right soak it in. It is staggeringly awesome. whom ever the illustrator is I give him credit, he did his job well above the call of duty. If his job is to entice possible book purchasers to throw down their hard earned cash on “The Little People” bravfuckino. This could include nothing but the K section of the phone book. I wouldn’t give a shit. This would have been snatched of the shelf and ran to the register without the slightest glimpse inside. What’s not to like. Okay it might be a tad politically incorrect but hey, it’s not like I think all “Little People” are swastika wearing, curly shoe sporting, Santa Nazi elves hell bent on destruction.

It looks like the beer halls under Santa’s castle went ape shit after a reading of Mein Kampf.

Thanks again Vex your the best.
