Miss Mount Baldy 1961

Miss Mount Baldy 1961

Is that her title or what she did to earn that trophy? [rimshot] I’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip your waitress. I had a bunch more but they were questionably tasteful.

Queen Long Beach Community Fair 1951

It must be too close to Halloween. I can’t tell if this girl is in the process of curtsying to the photographer, or grabbing hold of her skirts to haul ass across the grass, trying to escape the menacing zombielike figures behind her. She is smiling so it might be the former. Well not until Nov. 1st at least.

negative 51

Well judging by the IOTW calender it’s July of 09′. First post in August 08′, 46 posts later, you do the math. Okay , so I have been less than diligent than anticipated. Especially in the last couple months. Well I thought I would make a return of sorts. So here we go.

Shot this with my phone walking around the neighborhood last night. I never tried any of the goofy little filters that come with the camera app. I thought it looked kinda cool and as such is now my phone background as well. I will definitely have to play around with these filters a little more. Fun stuff.

Miss 906 1951

Miss 906 1951

Miss 906? Not exactly sure what the 906 is for. Actually it shows her listed as the Elks Convention Queen for 1951. I can’t even imagine how harrowing it would have been, being the Queen for a convention hall full of drunken middle age Elks. I shudder to think.

For once the girl’s name is inscribed on the negative. Quick Google search and… well what do we have here? Seems Miss 906, 4 years latter, moved up the food chain and secured a spot as Playboy’s Miss October 1955.

Kathleen Hanna

After reading a book about the riot grrrl movements notorious run in the 90′s (“Girls to the Front”) I was pulling up some discography info on Bikini Kill and ran across this pic of Kathleen Hanna. It seemed a fair snapshot, not just Hanna fronting Bikini Kill but, of the immediacy of the scene. In your face, heart on it’s sleeve, and unflinchingly raw. For fans of hers or the bands you know what I am talking about. For those that are interested “Pussy Whipped” is a solid classic. The song “Rebel Girl” is worth the price of it alone.
